Old Westbury Neoclassical

The Irish poet James Stephens once said “Originality does not consist in saying what no one has ever said before, but in saying exactly what you think yourself.”  Upon first meeting the young couple who were to inhabit this stately home in the village of Old Westbury, it was evident that our style and personalities were very much aligned, and this set the course for a project guided by complete trust & independence to express ourselves freely. When faced with the prospect of designing the interior of a very formal & classically-built home for clients with a fondness for the eclectic, our first instinct was to nod in respect to the lines of the neo-classical structure, then inject bold clashes of absolute irreverence for the style everywhere. The deliberate tension between the two dialogues inadvertently created a genuine style of its own.
